168 hours a week for all of us!

Yes that’s right!! We all share the same 24Hr day 7 days a week.

But why do some of us get so much more done in our 168 Hour week than others?

Do you ever wonder how some Internet Marketers get so much more done in their standard week compared to others?

How they manage to update their blog daily, launch their new products, respond to emails and I’m sure still mange to find time to get down the pub to see their friends.

Is it luck?

Do they have fewer responsibilities than us?

Do they have a partner they can rely on?

Or….

Is it just that successful people seem to be able to make use of all their time with great efficiency?

I personally believe it is the latter.  Successful people tend to use every hour they have wisely and don’t tend to waste their time on unproductive or meaningless activities.

I mean only the other day I was on the net doing some research for my EBook project when I suddenly found my mouse hovering over my Facebook Icon and before you knew it there I was an hour gone by and no further with my research.

This was major time wasted in my eyes as instead of replying to messages and hovering around the world of Facebook I could have completed another of my days Internet Marketing tasks.

It was then I decided I was going to take action and make sure I didn’t waste any more of my time on meaningless activities when I could be growing my IM empire.

So I decided I was going to do a weekly list of all the tasks I would like to complete that related to my IM business.

After writing the list I reviewed it to see if it was too short or too long and then divided the tasks into manageable daily chunks for the AM and the PM.

It looked something a little like this:

Day

A/M Tasks

P/M Tasks

Monday

  • Update Blog
  • Purchase PLR products
  • Add auto responder messages to Aweber
  • Network with fellow IM contact on Twitter
  • Add Posts to IM forums
  • Add Ad sense ads to my blog

Tuesday

  • Promote affiliate product on my blog
  • Add broadcast message to Aweber
  • Re-brand PLR product with my affiliate links
  • Research Hot topic for my new EBook
  • Leave feedback for all PLR products purchased on EBay
  • Add content to my Blog categories for Viral Marketing subject

I won’t carry on through the entire week as I’m sure you get the picture but now I have daily manageable chunks that I can cross off as I do them so as not to suffer with information overload.

Now I’m sure you have heard of or experienced the term ‘information overload’, right?  When there is just so much to do that you can no longer keep track of it all and your brain decides to go into complete shut down moad.

This way with my daily task list I have complete control and a clear view of what and when I need to do something.

I also believe that as well as being organised, you also need great self-motivational skills to succeed in business especially when you are working on your own to begin with.

So I decided to make another short list that I can put up on the wall in large font right in front of my desk. This is a list of what motivates me to succeed in Internet Marketing. Try it for yourself; just make a simple list of the things that motivate you most.

It could be:

  • Financial Freedom
  • Luxury Holidays
  • A Nice Sports Car
  • More Free Time
  • Early Retirement
  • Being Your Own Boss

Now if it is something like a brand new car or a luxury holiday that motivates you then why not put a picture of these items right next to your list on the wall for extra encouragement. As I said before many of us are working alone to begin with so we need all the encouragement we can get!

I now look at my list everyday and the next time I feel like using my time unproductively by watching some TV Show I have already seen 5 times or messing around of Facebook for 2 Hours I allow the list to remind me of the whole point of why I am doing this and what I could expect if I use all my time as productively as possible. After all only I, can make it happen, no one is going to do it for me. The dream is there, only I can make it become a faster reality.

I hope some of these insights prove useful to you and if you have any particular methods you use to keep yourself motivated and to use your time more efficiently then please feel free to leave some comments and tips.

‘’People blame others for their lack of progress, but if you don’t accept that you have the control, then all that negative energy will control you.

    Good Luck

  2. Steve, great insights, thank you. I often wonder if the really successful IMers simply outsource a lot of their work. I start each day with good intentions but by the time I trawl through all those email offers I’ve wasted a whole ton of time. So I’ve decided to do my chores first THEN open my email. It’s working!
    Keep up the grand work.

    Thanks for the comments Erin.
Yes I agree I believe the big boys must at some stage outsource thier work but as thier profits grow it becomes more viable. I personally love writing my own blog and putting my own touches on it.

As for all the IM offers and emails it is very easy to get lost in them all and waste a huge amount of time so what I like to do is simply skim the best IM offers and store them in my Intenet Favourites Bar under a folder called ”IM Offers” that way I can quickly come back to them later when I have some free time. However I usually find that when I do come back to them I am not as intesrested as I first was and that the ”Impulse Buy Feeling” has gone. I hope it helps.

Best of luck with the masterclass

  12. Excellent post, Steve. One of the first things I did was to make a day-by-day plan for the week, a month-by-month plan for the year (based on a post in John Thornhill’s blog) and a detailed mind-storm analysis of all the things I need to do and learn. It’s a lot!

I don’t always manage to stick with the plan or the wewkly timetable but at least it gives me a stucture to work with.

Good luck with all your endevours!
