Creating my first eBook- part 1 (Brainstorming)
Hello again Readers, Great to have you back with me….
Right then down to business Steve! First things first ”Brainstorming” let’s use the method I was taught so well at school, place a big bubble in the centre of my piece of paper and brain storm ideas from that. Now I remember being told that some of the best selling EBooks’ are the ones that actually solve problems for people. I mean it makes sense all of us out there always need an answer to something or some kind of self-help guide/manual.
So I start thinking about problems I have had or my family has had recently such as:
- my brother being made redundant
- the rising shopping bills which have resulted in the current economic collapse
- the 48 hr stomach bug that passed through my family from my mother to my father to my grandmother
So I make a huge spider diagram of all the problems that I can think of lately that have affected me or my family and then I try to think of ways to solve them.
Now in this day and age most of us head straight to somewhere like www.google.com or www.askjeeves.com and research these problems by the listings offered by these search engines and as many of you will know you will usually receive around 55 million results or something like that figure. Then you will search the first few results, some will offer the answer you need some wont and some will bombard you with advertising or just a link to another page or a pop-up window until you get so deep in this web of information you don’t actually need that you forget where you started.
This sounds very familiar to me so I start thinking that it would be much easier if I could just find an EBook with the relevant information I need such as ” Home Remedies for Stomach Upset’s” or ‘’How to Deal with Redundancy”.
So why not create an EBook about any of these subjects myself, I mean if I need this information then I’m sure there are others out there who would be willing to pay for an EBook that gave them detailed concise information on the subject which ultimately saves time trawling through the search engines and patching pieces of information together. I could do all of this for them and then put it together in a package that I could sell over and over again!!
RECAP
So looking back over my work for the last hour I think the best thing I could do before rushing into the actual writing of the EBook was to take some time away in a quiet place and ”Brainstorm” some ideas (yes I know what you are thinking, that it does not seem like an hour’s work in this short post but let me assure you that I did some long hard thinking in that brainstorming session which opened me up to new ideas and thoughts). I mean just a few ideas I had from problems my family and I have experienced recently led to instant ideas and subjects I could use for my first EBook and I think this is the key to begin with.
I must allow my brain to open up to new thoughts and ideas. Something I once heard from a fellow IM is that ”the brain can take a full 30minutes of concentrating and pressure before any new ideas or thoughts are produced”. The problem is that most people don’t have the patience to think or concentrate on just one thing for a solid 3o minutes so they switch off before the brain has a chance to dig deep to find the ideas and inspiration we require. But if we can concentrate our thoughts on a subject for at least 30 minutes without interruption then later on the ideas we so badly were looking for will start to come through to us.
You see the brain does not stop working when it is put under extreme pressure, even if we are off doing other things the brain because of the constant pressure we put it under earlier will continue to search for those ideas and then deliver them at no apparent time. I mean, I have had ideas come to me whilst I am making a cup of tea or walking to the shops. You have heard the saying ”we only use 10% of our brains” right, well try putting your brain under some constant pressure for ideas for 30 minutes in a quiet place and see what it delivers to you later.……please be sure to check my next post ‘’Creating My First EBook Part 2’’

Steve.
