Just incaseyou think I have gone crazy and you haven’t yet heard of this remarkable story, allow me to fill you in. A women was caught on CCTV outside a home in Coventry on 21st August 2010 petting a 4 year old cat name Lola and was then seen dumping the cat in a wheelie bin and closing the lid shut. The cat was stuck in the wheelie bin for 15 hours without food or water until her owners heard her whimpering and rescued her.
This footage below and the story itself caused outrage especially amongst animal lover across the UK and the story quickly spread worldwide with even US TV news stations showing coverage of the malicious and cowardly act.
Now I am not writing this post to talk about this horrible act but more to show you how anyone online can use a single piece of wanted and popular information to make money for themselves.
You see after doing some digging I soon saw that there were many people uploading clips of the malicious act to video sites like Youtube and Google Video and the hits some of these clips were getting were truly amazing. Infact the video above at the time of writing this post has already received an incredible 1,064,753 views!
You see when a new story is hot off the press or getting local/global interest then there will always be people looking to get more information on the story, so they go to places like Google and do a search or to Youtube to watch the event, and this offers savvy marketers a wonderful chance to cash in on such a massive influx of traffic to these popular sites.
All it takes for a marketer to make money is to upload a video of the event to a site like Youtube and insert a few links to his own or affiliate products that are directly related to the event itself. In this example I noticed that many of these Youtube clips of the wheelie bin cat were also advertising products such as cat food and pet supplies. You see this dramatic influx of traffic will also include many targeted buyers who you can cash in on.
I am even sure if the RSPC had the online marketing knowledge of some of us Internet entrepreneurs then they could have uploaded a similar clip to Youtube and placed a direct link where visitors could donate to the RSPC to help save the lives of animals and I’m sure there would of been a ton of willing visitors who would have donated generously.
Not everyone will know how to market effectively online- but you might!
There were many others who uploaded the cat wheelie bin clip to Youtube just for the sake of sharing it with others with no intention or idea of how to use it for online marketing profits. So there would be absolutely nothing stopping a savvy affiliate or Internet marketer like yourself from contacting the video owner and offering to promote or place links to an affiliate offer on their clip with a 50/50 split of the profits between you and the video owner.
With videos bringing in close to a million viewers, the marketing opportunities are huge and this doesn’t end with the wheelie bin clip. Why not have a search around Youtube for some popular clips (we are talking around 100,000 views +) and see if you can contact a video clip owner in an attempt to offering a marketing deal to them. As an example – one idea is to look at magic trick clips, these often have high viewing figures and surprisingly hardly anyone is advertising major magic trick products on them?
I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any comments on what I have written or indeed the wheelie bin cat story itself, please feel free to leave a comment and ill get back to you.
